![]() "These projects are to me, not full time job. On April 3, 2015, Hill transferred the uBlock project to Chris Aljoudi due to frustrations with dealing with requests as the project's popularity increased. The report attributed the growth to the desire of users for pure blockers, outside the " acceptable ads" program operated by Adblock Plus. Ī joint Sourcepoint and comScore survey reported an 833% growth from November 2014 to August 2015, the strongest growth among adblockers listed. First released in June 2014 as a Chrome and Opera extension, in 2015 the extension became available in other browsers. ![]() uBlock was developed by Raymond Hill to use community-maintained block lists, while adding features and raising the code quality to release standards. Development started by forking from the codebase of HTTP Switchboard along with another blocking extension called uMatrix, designed for advanced users. UBlock was initially named "μBlock" but the name was later changed to "uBlock" to avoid confusion as to how the Greek letter μ (Mu/Micro) in "μBlock" should be pronounced. UBlock Origin is actively developed and maintained by its creator and lead developer Raymond Hill. uBlock Origin's stated purpose is to give users the means to enforce their own (content-filtering) choices. uBlock Origin has received praise from technology websites and is reported to be much less memory-intensive than other extensions with similar functionality. The extension is available for Chrome, Chromium, Edge, Firefox, Brave, Opera, Pale Moon, as well as versions of Safari prior to 13. Try it.UBlock Origin ( / ˈ j uː b l ɒ k/ " YOO-block" ) (previously uBlock and originally μBlock) is a free and open-source browser extension for content filtering, including ad blocking. I highly recommend Firefox on Android in its current state with the Ublock Origin extension. I guess real world performance is different. I keep testing websites that I have bookmarked and I'm shocked as Firefox in general doesn't benchmark well. I'm even experiencing less pop ups and annoying behavior than Chrome. Some even have differences in appearance that I so far prefer. ![]() Some webpages that I visit not only load faster than Chrome but look different and have the ads stripped out without leaving a white box or blank space more often than other ad blocking browsers. Their private Brave search beta is quite good for a beta. Vivaldi on mobile has an excellent bottom navigation bar with quick access to bookmarks. I actually prefer Vivaldi on desktop but Firefox on mobile. I also have Vivaldi as my back up browser on my phone. I think I finally found the sweet spot that gives enough speed and battery boost without annoying myself. ![]() I'm using most of the Ublock filters minus Pete Lowe's stuff and the social lists. I love the homepage but I disable pocket as I don't like having curated news on my start page unless I'm able to choose the news sources. I'm running it with only Ublock Origin and so far it's faster than Chrome on my OnePlus 9 Pro. I had heard last year that they switched to a new mobile browser engine but it didn't feel right until I tried it in January. I had tried Firefox Android several times in the past but hated it upon installation and would quickly get rid of it. I decided to give alternative browsers yet another try. It was actually the Microsoft buyout of Activision that somehow got me rolling in this direction once again. I'm not getting much in return for my data other than a nice Google Discover feed. After a few years of this, I started getting fed up with giving in to big tech. I kind of drifted to Chrome on desktop because I switched my mobile browser to Chrome from Dolphin Browser. I used to be a long term Firefox desktop user. ![]()
